Have Fun, But Protect Your Skin!
Everyone loves having fun in the sun,
but too much sun is no fun at all for your skin.
While you're enjoying the great outdoors,
it's also important to know just how the
sun's rays can affect your skin.
The Sun And Your Skin
The sun may feel good on your skin,
but its UV (ultraviolet) rays can actually
discolour and damage your skin,
resulting in dark spots, hyperpigmentation,
sun spots, freckles and uneven skin tone.
UV rays damage the outer layer of your skin,
called the epidermis. The pidermis contains
melanocytes - cells that produce pigment or
melanin, which gives your skin its colour.
Overexposure to UV rays, or free radicals like
smoke and air pollution, activates an over-production
of melanocytes and melanin, which in turns
causes premature aging, lines and wrinkles
as well as a loss of firmness, elasticity and skin glow.
